First Methodist Church of Point Marion, Pa.
The First Methodist Church of Point Marion still exists today as the Point Marion United Methodist Church, 502 Morgantown St., Point Marion, PA 15474. Phone: 724-725-3366.

The congregation first met in 1841 and was officially recognized in 1843. It was founded from the Mt. Zion Church of Greene County, Pennsylvania, originally called the Methodist Episcopal Church. They first met in the Polly House on Main St., the Mill house on Water St. and the Ferry House from 1841-1861. The original church was on Penn Street (now the site of the Centra Bank, but was originally a framed building) built in 1861. They remained there from 1862-1922. In 1922 they dedicated the structure that still exists today at 502 Morgantown St., a buff-colored brick building with two memorial windows: The Good Shepherd and The Sower and a Fellers-Kent pipe organ. The parsonage was next door at 500 Morgantown St., also built of the same materials. Their first pastor was Rev. Holmes.
In 1940 the pastor was Rev. Leonard Hyskell Hoover.
Church Records
The Board of Trustee Records were covered in two volumes (1883-1921) & (1921-1940) There were no records from 1841 to 1883). The records were held by Miss Nellie Gans, the Secretary-Treasurer of 205 Fayette Ave.
The Methodist Ladies Aid Society was organized in 1911 and they held the following Minute Books (1911-1928) (1928-1929) (1919-1933) & (1933-1939).
The Methodist Missionary Society was organized in 1905. The following Minute Books were held: (1905-1913) (1913-1916) (1916-1923) (1923-1937) & (1937-1939)
The Methodist Service Guild was organized in 1939 and they had one ledger held by Mr. A. J. Huchette of 107 Boulevard, Point Marion.
In 1939 the Aid Society and Missionary Society were consolidated into the Service Guild.
The Finance records were in two volumes: (1883-1932) (1932-1940). No previous records. The first volume was store with C.F. Hunker of 101 Boulevard, Point Marion, the second was stored at the church.
Church Rites records were held “Church Records” and covered the years (1883-1921) and (1921-1940). Previous records were lost. The first volume was stored in the church and the second was stored at Miss Nellie Gans. The only marriage records were from 1937-1940 held by the pastor. “Each Pastor takes records with him when leaving.”
The Sunday School was organized May 20, 1849. The following Minute Books were held: (1870-1874) (1874-1879) (1894-1896) (1900-1904) (1915—1916) (1916-1921) (1921-1923) (1929-1932) (1932-1934) (1934-1935) (1935-1939) (1940-)
There was a church history written by Mrs. E.J. Conn of Point Marion consisting of five typewritten pages. There was also a Dedication Program written by Rev.O.J. Rishel in 1922 containing 12 pages.

1898—On November 15, a meeting was held of representatives of the Avery Circuit of the Methodist Protestant Churches in Point Marion to arrange for a building in Point Marion. Rev. J. P. Varner presided. He was the pastor from 1898 to 1900. On November 22, another meeting was held at which it was agreed to buy the Dietrich lots on Sadler Street. On November 25, a solicitation committee was appointed to gather funds for a church building.

History: United Methodist – Western Pennsylvania Conference. Point Marion: First and Point Marion: Trinity churches yoked together in 1970 to form the Point Marion United Methodist Church. In 2003 Point Marion had 285 members.

Location: Located at Broadway and Morgantown Streets in the Borough of Point Marion in Fayette County, PA. History: Methodist Episcopal - Pittsburgh Conference. This Church was organized in 1843 through the efforts of Ambrose Dilliner, with four members. They had no regular place of worship, but met from place to place, such as the Polly Rose House, the Mill House, and the Ferry House. Membership by 1850 was 23. A lot for a Church was given by Mr. and Mrs. John Sadler. This lot was traded for a lot owned by the Ruble family on the north side of Penn Street, the main street of the town, later occupied by the Gallatin Bank. A building was erected for $1,000.00 in 1861 and connected with Mount Morris circuit. In 1866 transferred to the Greensboro Circuit with Mapletown and Mount Olive Churches. In 1904 it transferred from Washington District to the McKeesport District and for years was with the Fairchance Church. On January 29, 1921 the old building was sold for $12,000.00. The corner stone was laid for the new church on Broadway and Morgantown streets on September 11, 1921 and was dedicated on April 16, 1922 under the ministry of Reverend 0scar J. Rishel. In 1967 First Church was yoked with Trinity of Point Marion (formerly Methodist Protestant) under the ministry of Edward Everett Donner. The membership in 1968 was 258. This Church Merged with Point Marion: Trinity to become the Point Marion United Methodist Church
